SONGWRITER CONTEST
RULES AND REGULATIONS

NOTE: All entries must be postmarked on or before August 4th, 2010 and received at the physical address (P.O. Box 156, Coon Valley, Wisconsin) by August 4th, 2010. Entries received after August 4th, 2010 will be disqualified for entry. If you missed this year’s deadline, remember to enter early next year!

Each entry requires the following four elements:

  1. One song - six minutes or less in length.

  2. A lyric sheet – no lyrics necessary for instrumental compositions.

  3. A payment - $20.00 person (check or money order to KVAMA). 100% of proceeds from entry fee will be returned to the songwriter stage, winning songwriters and Larryfest music festival (non-profit organization)
  4. .
  5. A signed and completed application.

Each song submitted must be the contestant’s original work. Songs may not exceed six minutes in length. No song previously recorded and released through a national distribution in any country will be eligible (subject to final decision by KVAMA board). Songs may have multiple co-writers but please designate one name only on the application and prizes will be “shared” with co-writers according to your negotiated agreement. Contestants ma submit AS MANY SONGS as he/she wishes, but EACH ENTRY requires a separate compact disc (NO MP3’s) or cassette tape along with entry fee and application. One check or money order for multiple entries is acceptable and you can include multiple songs in one mailing envelope. Contest entry fee is non-refundable. KVAMA is not responsible for late, lost, damaged, misdirected, postage due, stolen, or misappropriated entries. Entries must be postmarked on or before August 4, 2010 and received at the physical address by August 4, 2010 or they will be disqualified.

PRIZES: Three songs will be selected and songwriter’s will be awarded prizes. All songs will received will be reviewed by 6 judges. Recordings of songs will not be returned. Songwriters will be awarded prizes at the Larryfest music festival on August 20 and 21, 2010. The top three contestants have a opportunity to perform at Larryfest on one of the two festival stages. The first place contestant will be allowed to choose from three prize groupings. The second place contestant will choose from two prize groupings remaining. The third place contestant will receive the final and remaining prize.

  1. A STUDIO RECORDING PACKAGE: DONATED BY SOUNDSTRATIONS (BRETT HUUS) LOCATED IN LACROSSE, WI. A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT : CHOOSE ONE OF THE TWO STRINGED INSTRUMENTS ON DISPLAY AT THE FESTIVAL ( PROVIDED THROUGH DAVE’S GUITAR OR STRING SWING). A CASH SCHOLARSHIP FROM KVAMA WILL ALSO BE PROVIDED. STRING SWING ACCESSORIES FOR GUITAR PLAYERS.

  2. RECORD A DEMO SONG: DONATED BY MIKE STIDOLPH (STUDIO MUSCIAN AND RECORDING ARTIST). A STRINGED INSTRUMENT. A CASH SCHOLARSHIP DONATED BY KVAMA. SSE MUSIC GIFT CERTIFICATE (DONATED BY SHARON AND STEVE EARP). STRING SWING ACCESSORIES FOR GUITAR PLAYERS.

  3. ACOUSTIC REMEDY PACKAGE (VIEW THIS VERY COOL NEW ITEM AT THE FESTIVAL). SSE MUSIC GIFT CERTIFICATE. CASH SCHOLARSHIP DONATED BY KVAMA. STRING SWING ACCESSORIES FOR GUITAR PLAYERS.

  4. This contest is open to amateur artists (defined by KVAMA board as an original artist who has not obtained national distribution from a major record label). You may have recordings available for purchase nationally or via website which is permissible. National distribution is defined as a major sponsor or record label who produces your song commercially. This contest is open to KVAMA family members and ALL AMATEUR SONGWRITERS/ARTISTS. This contest is designed to promote the spirit of songwriting for all ages.

    Winners/finalists and honorable mentions will be chosen by selected judges who have musical expertise or they will be selected from the Larryfest/KVAMA board. All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited. The top three finalists will be notified prior to the Larryfest music festival. You will be contacted by phone if you are a finalist. Contestants may view posted results located online at www.kvama.org on August 11th, 2010. Winners are not required to be present Larryfest to obtain their prize however this is preferred. Finalists will be required to sign an affidavit to verify original work. Individuals under the age of 18 must provide additional signatures by parent/guardian. Entry constitutes permission to use winners names for future advertising and publicity purposes without additional compensation. CD’s, cassettes and lyrics will not be returned.
